It took me fifteen years to record my entire first album in Turkish! I have collected some of the songs and melodies that have changed my life and in my estimation they constitute the best gateway to Turkish music.
Half of the songs in this collection are religious songs. Love songs to God from the Sufi Muslim tradition. I do not feel that my Jewish identity is dulled and perhaps even the opposite, glowing more strongly. God is one. With wonder and humility I submit them to you.
With my good friend Gilad Hazan, I created Mulana (our master in Arabic and Turkish) a happy and uplifting original music based on the influences of Turky – North Africa. There is something about the dizzying North African Grove that although it is not my natural “home”, I was so happy to learn and create from it
You could say it’s my “head to head” on Ney with guitar virtuoso Mosh Zehavi. Based on loved works from Turkey and the Balkans, we went to an open meeting, improvising each other as a concept for creating our arrangements.
A gentle electro rock album I created in 2003 with 2 people who influenced me a lot – Haim Cairi and Eli Ben David. These were the days of most creative musical spiritual exercises and lets leave it at that ☺.
All of these projects are called commercial music. On the other side of the equation and equally important is library music. Music used by editors on TV channels, media and production companies. Creating music for a picture is a huge challenge, it has to transmit a certain amount of energy right from the start and reach emotional climax relatively quickly.
